Job Description: Assistant Webmaster (Volunteer Position)

Works collaboratively with: Board of Directors, President. Webmaster, Newsletter Editor, and Publicity Chair
Commitment: 4–5 hours per month (Virtual)

Position Summary

The Assistant Webmaster supports the NWSGS website and digital tools while learning hands-on skills in a friendly, low-pressure environment. This role is ideal for someone who is curious, reliable, and interested in learning how modern nonprofit websites and online meetings are managed.

You do not need to be an expert. Training, documentation, and guidance are provided. What matters most is a willingness to learn and a desire to help.

This role can grow over time for someone who wants to take on more responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Website & Digital Support

  • Assist with basic updates to the NWSGS WordPress website, such as posting meeting information, updating pages, or adding images.

  • Help keep content current by working from templates and checklists.

  • Learn how different site tools work together over time.

Zoom & Meeting Support

  • Assist with setting up Zoom meetings or webinars using established procedures.

  • Help with post-meeting tasks such as organizing recordings or sharing links.

  • Learn best practices for running smooth virtual meetings.

Collaboration & Learning

  • Work closely with the Webmaster to learn WordPress, Zoom, and related tools.

  • Coordinate with board members to support website and meeting needs.

  • Ask questions, take notes, and gradually take on more responsibility at your own pace.

Optional Creative Support

  • Assist with simple graphics or visual updates using Canva (optional).

  • Help format or organize documents using Microsoft Office 365 tools.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Curiosity & Willingness to Learn: Interested in building new digital skills.

  • Reliability: Able to follow through on agreed tasks.

  • Basic Computer Comfort: Comfortable using email, web browsers, and files.

  • Communication: Willing to ask questions and communicate clearly.

  • Interest in Genealogy: A plus, but not required.

No prior experience with WordPress, Zoom, Canva, or Microsoft 365 is required.
