Job Description: President (Board Position)
Works collaboratively with: Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, Treasurer, Webmaster
Commitment: ~5–7 hours per month (Virtual)
Position Summary
The President is a member of the NWSGS Board who supports the society’s mission by helping the board and volunteers work together effectively. This role focuses on facilitation, coordination, and keeping the society organized and moving forward in a primarily digital environment.
This is a shared leadership role. The President works closely with the board and does not operate alone.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Coordination
- Facilitate monthly board meetings and regular membership meetings.
- Work with board members to set agendas and guide productive discussions.
- Support annual planning for programs, speakers, and society activities.
Execution & Ongoing Support
- Help ensure required filings and records are completed on schedule (for example, IRS 990-N and officer updates).
- Support the Treasurer in presenting the annual budget to the board.
- Oversee continuity of shared digital resources related to board operations.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with board members and committee chairs to support their efforts.
- Encourage open communication and shared responsibility.
- Serve as a welcoming point of contact for members with questions or ideas.
- Provide leadership updates during membership meetings as appropriate.
Skills & Qualifications
- Leadership & Facilitation: Comfortable guiding meetings and discussions.
- Communication: Clear, respectful communicator.
- Organization: Able to track timelines and follow through on board decisions.
- Comfort with Digital Tools: Willing to use and learn common online collaboration tools.
- Interest in Genealogy: Helpful, but not required.
