Dr. Fritz Juengling BIO:

Doctor Juengling received his bachelor’s degrees in German Studies and Secondary Education at Western Oregon University, his Master’s and Doctorate in Germanic Philology with minors in both English and Linguistics at the University of Minnesota. Germanic Philology is a highly specialized field of study, combining languages, linguistics, paleography and history. For his graduate degrees, Dr. Juengling was required to demonstrate competence in English, German, Medieval Latin and two other modern languages. He chose Dutch and Norwegian. He also took courses in Old, Middle, and Early Modern English, Old and Middle High German, Old Norse (Old Icelandic), Gothic, Old Frisian, Old Saxon, and Middle Dutch, history of the English, German, Dutch, and Scandinavian languages, Latin and Greek philology, Latin paleography, and Middle English paleography. He also took a number of courses on English dialects and wrote his dissertation on the formation of Southern Hemisphere dialects of English. He has taught German, English, Latin and Old English (Anglo-Saxon) at the high school and university levels. He is an Accredited Genealogist® for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden through the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists, and certified by the Verband deutschsprachiger Berufsgenealogen.

Dr. Fritz Juengling is a remarkable scholar with an impressive educational background. He obtained his Bachelor's degrees in German Studies and Secondary Education from Western Oregon University. Dr. Juengling then pursued his passion for linguistcs, earning both his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Germanic Philology from the University of Minnesota.

Germanic Philology, a fascinating and specialized field, encompasses the study of languages, linguistics, paleography, and history. During his graduate studies, Dr. Juengling was required to demonstrate proficiency in English, German, Medieval Latin, and two other modern languages. He also studied Latin and Greek philology, Latin paleography, and Middle English paleography, further enriching his understanding of linguistic and historical intricacies.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Juengling has become a popular and nationally known presenter to many societies and groups on a wide range of topics. These include methodology, resources, websites, paleography, naming practices, and calendars & feast days.

Dr. Juengling's expertise extends beyond academia. He is an Accredited Genealogist® for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, as recognized by the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists. Furthermore, he is certified by the Verband deutschsprachiger Berufsgenealogen, solidifying his status as a trusted authority in the field.

What I do

Having worked as a genealogical Research Consultant at the FamilySearch Library, I have had significant experience researching in and doing translations from many countries. I have given presentations to societies and groups on a wide range of topics concerning the areas where I do research. I live close to the FamilySearch Library and have access to its records.
