Presenter’s Bio:
Following a twenty-year career in the U.S. Navy and a short stint as a Washington, D.C. consultant Craig R. Scott started his professional genealogical career as a researcher in the Washington, D.C. area. He began lecturing at national conferences in 1990. He became an author in 1992 and would own his own publishing company in 1995, Willow Bend Books. Through various acquisitions, his company would become Heritage Books, Inc. in 2003. Today Heritage Books, Inc. is a leading genealogical publishing firm with more than 8,500 titles in print. He continues to spend many weeks and weekends on the road lecturing and speaking at genealogical institutes and society meetings.
Craig R. Scott, CG first became interested in genealogy when he was a teenager. After fifteen years of occasional forays into courthouses and archives, he learned that he was doing it all wrong. His mission to learn to do it right began in 1985 when he first joined the National Genealogical Society. And the journey began.
He became the Clan Scott, USA genealogist in 1985, a position he would hold for fifteen years. For nine years he was the editor of The Scott Genealogical Quarterly.
His first national lecture was in 1990 at the National Genealogical Society Conference in the States in Crystal City, Virginia. He has been lecturing locally, regionally, and nationally ever since.
He was the owner of Willow Bend Books and acquired several smaller genealogical publishing companies over the years. In 2003 he acquired Heritage Books and continued to publish titles under that name.
He was the longest-serving member of the Board of Directors, Association of Professional Genealogists. He has retired from that position.
