How to start your resource search
You can start by putting your search criteria in the "Search" box. You do not need to press enter as it will start searching as you type in the search box.
Main Category
If you would like to browse the listings and limit your results you can do so by choosing one or more items in the Main Category field such as Cook County or Civil War etc.
Select the listing
After you've found a listing you want to view, here are a few things to keep in mind. To reach the selected website, click the "URL" button. In addition, some of the listings have a "Facebook" link. Now, look at the far right side of the listing. An asterisk ("*") indicates that this link was provided by a presenter at one of our monthly meetings in their handout. Finally, you will find the "+" sign next to the Main Category. Press the "+" sign to learn more about this listing.
More Information
All of the available links for this listing can be seen in the "More Infomation" section. There are links to several social media platforms and Sound Cloud where you can listen to recordings of meetings and other audio archives. In October of 2020, Beck Lowery spoke to our group about "Researching at the Newbery Library." Here you will also find links to the handout and video recording of the presentation.
Tips and Tricks
Unlike the Google search engine, this is a simple search. The search starts looking as soon as you start typing.
Type "open meetings" to get a list of genealogy societies or libraries that have meetings available to non-members.
Type "VVCS" To get a list of sites that the webmaster found interesting.
Use the "From" date if you want to look up entries which have been added since that date.
